Pipilotti Rist
Renowned Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist is undoubtedly one of the world’s more illustrious talents when it comes to the art of audio-video installations. These video installations invoke an arousal of the senses, effectively gratifying the audience’s aesthetic nerve. Audio combined with visual images of someone either touching, smelling or tasting an object, or even screaming and dancing, creates an experience that is in this world-- in the moment now. Through art, she aims to make up for the deficiencies which prevent her from feeling complete. Hence, major themes amongst her work consist of being human and being present. Often times, the subjects are depicted in a playfully invigorating manner, linking Rist’s lack of wholeness with figurative illustrations; and hereby allowing her to portray the organic unity of a person through sensorial action.
