I Love the Smell of Fashion - Tependris Rising
In the spirit of our recent post Thank You Bill Murray, here is Tependris Rising, an awesome short by the California fashion house Co which animated artist Konstantin Kakanias' character. The 7 minute video chronicles how Mrs. Tependris is brought back to life after being cryogenically frozen for 4 years and how she again becomes a fashion icon in front of Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and Kanye West. The short seamlessly incorporates Let's Dance by David Bowie and a soundtrack the evocotive of Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby.
The heroine of Mrs. Tependris was introduced in an illustrated New York Times Magazine article in 1996 by Kakanias in 1996, who used her as a metaphor for the state of contemporary art and its superficial reception by the public. The charater has become a cult icon in art community and Kakanias has published the books 'Freedom or Death' and 'Mrs. Tependris, the Contemporary Years' about her.
Kakanias also collaborated with Diane von Fürstenberg on the DC Comic book 'Be The Wonder Woman You Can Be'.
