Mikhailovsky Ballet Opens in New York
The Mikhailovsky Ballet tours the United States for the first time this autumn. Performing at New York’s Lincoln Center in the David H. Koch Theater, the Company will perform four shows from November 11-23 before crossing the country to perform in California at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts from November 28-30.
The Mikhailovsky Ballet displays four shows on its U.S. tour: The Flames of Paris, Three Centuries of Russian Ballet, Don Quixote, and Giselle, Ou Les Wilis. For the tour, the company brings its house orchestra and 140 dancers. Among the dancers are some of ballets most dazzling and well-known stars including Ivan Vasiliev, Angelina Vorontsova, Victor Lebedev, Oksana Bondareva, Leonid Sarafanov, Anastasia Soboleva, and Ivan Zaytsev.
The famed Mikhailovsky Theater opened in St. Petersburg Russia in 1833 and made a name for itself with its mixture of classical and contemporary arts. When Vladimir Kekhman became the company director in 2007, the Mikhailovsky ballet was transformed and it continues to be seen as one of the most eminent performances in ballet today.
