Dior Homme opted for a short film titled “The Players” to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 collection. Utilizing video to execute the design elements of the menswear collection is a revolutionary concept that falls somewhere between art and advertising. Director Willy Vanderperre explains, “It was quite revolutionary to start with this mind-set at the time. It was not only about the medium of print, it was about film and challenging people in a different way. Dior Homme was one of the pioneers of this.”
The scene presents a juxtaposition of a classic Gentlemen’s Club filled with modern men from the future. The perfectly-polished men are playing billiards in their impeccably-tailored suits. The swiftness of their movements highlights the construction and details of the slim-fit suit, which Dior Homme sought to modify to make more athletic. Similar to the backdrop of the film, the designers looked to the future of the garments by expanding from elements of the past. The recurring theme of the future is very apparent as the uniform men discuss space, travel and astronomical concepts. Their crisp attire is mostly black and white, with subtle red accents that also allude to a vision of the future. The futuristic elite portrayed, flawless apparel, and the overall presentation is exceptionally innovative, and TWELV is proud to be a chosen fashion source to feature it.
