DIOR MFW S/S19 READY-TO-WEAR

September 30, 2018 5:00 PM
On the surface, dance and fashion could appear as two distinct forms of art. Closer consideration, however, reveals similarities of monumental magnitude.

The Dior S/S19 Collection explored this intersection and celebrated the human body in its recent runway show. Both dance and fashion combine artistic vision and physical manifestation to produce profound and influential expressions by utilizing the body, and provide insight into and reflection of our current culture.

The collection exemplified this through its abundance of nude shades, mirroring the body and its plethora of tones, while movement was accentuated by full, flowing skirts. Dresses and tutus, both short and long, paid a more explicit homage to the voluminous costumes traditional for male dancers, while smaller details, like feathers and drawings, served as reminders of the classical and performative element of both art forms. Similarly, denim was used to salute the more contemporary hip-hop genre, again highlighting the collection's commitment to honoring synchronicity of dance and fashion.
