It’s the end of the world as we know it. Fascism is on the rise. We are all linked by a ubiquitous Grid. Our vista is stark. Cold. Automated. But Miuccia Prada’s world is all about dualities. Extreme conservatism begets a vibrant quest for freedom. Infernal futurism generates a sensual lushness in color, shape and texture. Combative global politics give rise to provocative beauty. Fashion and politics make strange bedfellows indeed, but not for Miuccia. Her designs have always been firmly grounded in the world of ideas.  Let’s not forget that her diploma is in political science, and she is self-taught in fashion. Each season, she invents a new world and we can’t help but submit to her dominion, which was staged for the first time at Fondazione Prada for Spring/Summer 2019. Art and Fashion? Another duality that Miuccia is perfectly comfortable with. Not to mention glossy satin Bermuda shorts, double-breasted wool blazers, pearly headpieces, studded oxford shirts, sheer skirt suits, gold-embossed handbags, shiny sequined day dresses, tie-dyed knee-skirts and martian-eyed sunglasses. It may be the end of the world as we know it, but Miuccia Prada feels fine. And so should you. Strife always yields a fertile crop of innovative self-expression, and Prada SS2019 is no exception.
